Steps in Applying for a Home Care Package

The process can seem overwhelming but here it is in a nutshell.


You need, or will soon need, additional support to remain comfortably and safely living in your own home. You decide to apply for a Home Care Package by visiting or else contact us and we can help you with the process.

You will be assessed by a member of the Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) who will determine how much assistance you are likely to need and the amount of subsidy available to you. You will have an income assessment as the Home Care Packages are means-tested. Aston Home Care can assist you with this process.
Allocation of a Package
The assessment process is reasonably quick and easy, but after being assessed it can take quite a long time before you actually receive a home care package. Depending on your needs and the amount of funding available, it could take several months before a package is allocated. We therefore encourage you to start the application as early as possible. Don’t wait until the need is very great. Feel free to contact us very early, even if you haven’t yet applied, and we can help guide you through the process.
Choose your Service Provider
Once you have been allocated a package, you need to choose an Authorised Home Care Packages Provider to deliver your services. There are many aged care providers out there, but we hope you will choose Aston Home Care to be your preferred provider.
Make a Care Plan
You work with us to formulate a care plan. You decide what services you need and how often, working within the budget that the Government have supplied. Have a look at the services we offer to help decide what might be right for you. Together we sign a Home Care Agreement which documents your rights and explains how the services will be delivered. You notify the Government, through the My Aged Care website, that you have signed a Home Care Agreement with us.
Start Receiving Services
Once you have registered your Home Care Agreement the Government sends us a unique approval code and the funding to provide your services, so we can commence supplying the agreed services. If you need a cleaner, we supply one. If you need a person to mow the lawn, we send them in.

We frequently review your care plan with you, so together, we can make whatever adjustments might be needed as your circumstances change over time.


You don’t actually need to contact an Approved Home Care Packages Provider, such as Aston Home Care, until step 4, however we encourage you to get in contact with us much earlier than that. We encourage you to start the process as soon as possible because there can be a significant delay between your initial application and finally being allocated a Home Care Package.
